North Dallas Kickoff

Competitive dodgeball is finally coming to Dallas! After a long run of hosting open dodgeball in Mesquite, TX, Tom Wakefield of Dallas Dodgeball has partnered with Sole Roll Indoor Soccer to bring what has already been taking place elsewhere around the world to North Texas: competitive dodgeball play

On April 30th (this Saturday), there will be a kickoff event to mark the beginning of a new era of dodgeball in Dallas. It's at the Sole Roll Indoor Soccer facility in Dallas, TX, and goes from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. The cost is $8 per player, but there will be plety of dodgeball so you can rest assured you will get your money's worth.

Spread across five of the six available courts will be more social but still team-based games. If you want to challenge a team, go ahead and do it! If you win, you stay; otherwise, it's back of the line for you. Just think of it like an arcade except you don't have to put your quarter up and worry about someone stealing it.

If you think you can handle it, though, there will be one court dedicated to the night-long tournament. At the end of the night, the two teams with the best records play in a championship game for a nice cash prize. You had better come prepared, though, because there will be at least one team from the Austin social club and the Back 9 team coming to compete.

Personally, I think that there are some things that need to be rectified (i.e. pinching, referees, and tournament structure), but we'll be there regardless to at least support local dodgeball. Come out and play if you can. Good times all around!

Super Dodgebowl

This year has already started out with some great tournaments. In Canada, the Dodgeball Nation and Toronto Dodgeball guys held a tournament and dished out over $7,000 total to the top three teams. First place went to Pow! Right in the Kisser from Toronto, second place to The Syndicate from Los Angeles, and third place went to the Devil Bats from Toronto, though we know our fellow Dallas team that went up to compete did us proud regardless.

As your probably surmised, though, from the picture, this is more about events in the near future, namely the Super Dodgebowl in Lake Forest, CA (here's the Facebook event if you want that, too). It doesn't have as large of a cash prize, but there will be free food, music, and tons of great competition with teams from all over California, Arizona, and Oregon. You best hop to registering if you plan on competing seeing as how it's next weekend, but you may be placed on a waiting list first since the sheer amount of registrants is so ridiculously high.

Coming up in the next couple of months are two tournaments that are especially worthwhile. In March, there will be the first state games of the year with dodgeball at the Grand Canyon State Games in Phoenix, AZ. I personally love competing in state games, especially the GCSG because so many teams from California and Arizona show up. It's a great way to measure your team's ability to compete and work together.

Finally, in April, Kevin Pack and the rest of the OSU crew will be hosting the first National Dodgeball League tour stop of the year in Corvallis, OR. Details are forthcoming since this event is still in development, but know that it's definitely happening and definitely in April. Hope to see you all there!

January Events for 2011

First off, I hope you all had a great new years and either a) partied hard, b) partied hard while playing dodgeball, or c) partied hard enough to the point where you thought filling a watermelon with gasoline and lighting it on fire was a good idea.

Regardless, the new year is here and 2011 already has some bangin' dodgeball events out on the horizon. In fact, the weekend of the 22nd has a double dose of fun, albeit 1,000 miles apart.

The first is a charity dodgeball tournament in Phoenix, AZ, with the AZ Dodgeball crew. It's called Duck the Balls and will be benefiting the HALO Animal Rescue facility in Phoenix. More details can be found either at the Facebook event page or at the AZ Dodgeball website. I even hear some California players will be attending.

Next is not really a tournament, but if you're in Texas, then you need to be in Austin on the 22nd for some all-star Texas fun. The NDL pro guys in Austin (including myself and Chris Allbright) are hosting a big open game for anyone who wants to take part, which happily includes other NDL pro players from San Antonio, Mesquite, Dallas, Houston, and even some Oklahoma dudes. E-mail us for more information, or just show up on January 22, 2011 at 3pm at 9616 N. Lamar, Suite 130, Austin, TX.

If you know of anything else huge, contact us, and we'll pass the word along. Welcome to 2011! WOOOOO!!!
